GLENHAULTIN
APRIL 2026
We went on a wheech around Glenhaultin to check on the lambs, finding the echoes of history in the stones. The old sheep dip - the dipper - and the old graveyard. It was really moving to see what used to be a place that people lived, and worked, and raised families. The Highland Clearances put paid to their way of life. What a peaceful life it must have been, although harder than I could imagine. Lazy Beds, where the crofters would grow their own food, are seeing all throughout Skye; here they are unmistakably linked to the roofless, mossy Blackhouses dotted around the land. A few errant sheep that crossed the river, and a lamb taken by the foxes, it was a lovely morning spent on the hill.
